Business Development Manager

Location: Carrollton, TX

Summary
The business development manager cultivates bidding opportunities and closes sales with new and existing customers for the assigned division or territory. This outside sales role requires close collaboration with division management, pre-construction managers, and estimators to identify, prioritize, and capture projects. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accountable for division sales, business development, and account management. 
  • Effectively maintains and grows divisional backlog. 
  • Master foundational knowledge in estimating, products, and service delivery to position Kent Companies for profitable growth. 
  • Implements strategic business development plans to achieve company growth objectives.
  • Aggressively markets Kent Companies’ capabilities and differentiators to new and existing customer segments.
  • Develop and prioritize a robust sales pipeline tracking opportunities from lead generation to closure.
  • Implement effective CRM strategies to achieve sales goals and manage customer interactions. 
  • Drive capture management on all bids submitted by the division, reporting on KPIs, including hit ratio and bid status.
  • Capture market or competitor information to enhance proposals or differentiate Kent Companies. 
  • Analyze and track competitor strategies in the CRM. 
  • Identify, prioritize, and pursue new market segments for business expansion. 
  • Represent Kent Companies at industry events and lead participation in formal and informal networking opportunities.
  • Collaborate with marketing to develop and implement campaigns and resources that enhance Kent Companies’ market position and customer conversion.
  • Travel requires a blend of regional and local market activity with the ability to work remotely.

Required Experience, Education, and Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial outside sales, generating new business leads, and bidding opportunities. We seek a business development manager who will provide aggressive capture management activities to support sales goals.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to motivate and provide guidance to stakeholders within the division. 
  • Familiarity with CRM or other sales data systems to track critical sales metrics and pipelines. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite and Teams.
  • Proficient reading of construction plans and specifications.
  • Time management skills, balancing multiple customers and business development goals.
  • Clear written and oral communication is required. This position collects substantial market information, which must be shared within the division to adjust pricing and company differentiation strategies.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must have reliable transportation to the workplace(s) and customer location(s). 
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check related to driving. 
  • Ability to pass drug screening.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and in the future.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, or related field.
  • Construction industry experience.
  • Experience in the underlayment or commercial flooring industry.
  • 5 years of experience in a related field.

Work Environment/Physical Demand
This position works in an office environment and extensively travels to support business development activities. This position requires long periods of sitting.

Position type, travel, and expected hours of work

  • This is a full-time, office/hybrid position. 
  • Travel requires a blend of regional and local market activity. 
  • Typical hours will range from 45-50 hours per week and are subject to change. Due to the critical nature of the role, accepting phone calls even during nontypical workdays and hours is also necessary.
