Safety Program Manager

Location: Lewisville, TX

Summary
The Safety Program Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing workplace safety programs to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. This role focuses on workers’ compensation management, safety training program development, safety process improvements, and the organization of safety filing systems. The Safety Program Manager works closely with leadership, field teams, and safety professionals to foster a strong safety culture, reduce workplace risks, and maintain regulatory compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safety Process Development & Program Management:
    • Develop, implement, and standardize safety policies, procedures, and best practices across the organization
    • Work with field teams and leadership to integrate safety into daily operations, project planning, and job hazard analysis (JHA).
    • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are identified and implemented.
    • Establish and monitor key safety performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and continuously improve safety initiatives.
    • Foster a proactive safety culture, engaging employees in safety discussions, toolbox talks, and incentive programs.
    • Stay current with OSHA regulations, ANSI standards, and other industry requirements, ensuring company policies align with legal requirements.
    • Monitor all safety notifications in ACC and inform the safety director on matters requiring immediate attention. Ensure that safety managers follow a similar protocol.
    • Organize and maintain safety team meeting schedules, rhythms, agendas, and meeting reports.
    • Communicate and collaborate with human resources, accounting, IT, and other support departments to ensure coordination of all systems and processes, including new employee onboarding, employment record-keeping, job start-up and progress documentation, incident reporting, and employee training/certification records.
  • Workers’ Compensation Management:
    • Oversee the workers’ compensation program, ensuring timely reporting, investigation, and resolution of claims.
    • Collaborate with insurance providers, third-party administrators (TPAs), medical professionals, and legal teams to manage claims effectively and reduce costs.
    • Develop and implement return-to-work programs, facilitating light-duty assignments and gradual reintegration.
    • Track and analyze injury trends, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures.
    • Provide training for supervisors and employees on proper injury reporting, claims procedures, and workplace safety best practices.
    • Ensure compliance with state and federal workers’ compensation regulations, maintaining proper documentation for audits and reviews.
  • Safety Training Program Development & Implementation:
    • Design, develop, and manage a comprehensive safety training program that aligns with OSHA, ANSI, and industry-specific regulations.
    • Conduct new-hire safety orientations, refresher courses, and job-specific safety training.
    • Coordinate with department heads to assess training needs and ensure employees are properly trained on hazard recognition, PPE usage, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.
    • Utilize various training methods, including hands-on demonstrations, virtual training, and classroom instruction, to enhance learning effectiveness.
    • Maintain detailed records of training sessions, attendance, and certifications to ensure regulatory compliance.
    • Regularly update and improve training materials based on incident data, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
  • Safety Filing & Documentation Systems:
    • Develop and maintain an organized safety filing system to track incident reports, training records, inspections, and compliance documentation.
    • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of workplace injuries, corrective actions, and safety meetings.
    • Implement digital record-keeping systems for easy access and retrieval of safety data.
    • Ensure audit-ready documentation complies with OSHA reporting requirements, workers’ compensation claims, and internal policies.
    • Provide leadership with data-driven reports on safety performance, trends, and areas for improvement.
    • Manage the annual review of all policies and procedures, including the corporate safety manual, issue-specific policies and procedures, and orientation program and materials.

Required Experience, Education, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental health, risk management, or a related field (preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in safety management, workers’ compensation, or risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, workers’ compensation laws, and industry-specific safety standards.
  • Experience in developing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Excellent analytical skills to assess risks, interpret safety data, and develop strategic improvements.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing safety documentation, compliance records, and training logs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and engage with employees at all levels, from field workers to executive leadership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and safety management software.
  • Certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), or OSHA 30/OSHA 500 (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must have reliable transportation to the workplace(s)/ job location(s).
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check related to driving.
  • Ability to pass drug screening.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and in the future.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Education
Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Work Environment/Physical Demand
This position will involve working in office and job site environments, so the candidate must be comfortable working in construction, industrial, or manufacturing settings.

Position type and expected hours of work

  • This is a full-time office/field position.
  • Typical hours will range from 45 to 50 hours per week and are subject to change. This role requires working nontypical days and irregular hours based on construction schedules. Due to the critical nature of the role, accepting phone calls even during nontypical workdays and hours is also necessary.

Travel
Frequent travel, including overnight stays, is required, and it requires extended periods of sitting and standing. Travel may be required to visit job sites, conduct training sessions, and perform audits.
