Division Manager

Location: Delaware, OH

Summary:
The Division Manager deliberately influences all aspects of the Division’s overall business and growth objectives. This role requires an entrepreneurial leader who drives a cost-effective gross margin and manages fixed costs to achieve the desired net profit for their Division. The Division Manager also spearheads the strategic and tactical plans in all aspects of a construction business, including Talent, Business Development, Preconstruction, Operations, and Customers Relations.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead the Business: Provide leadership and management to drive division sales, profitability, cash flow, and business goals and objectives.
    • Understand the big picture, how to lead others through the details, and balance the demands of both.
    • Deliver net profit as expected in the Division’s strategic plan.
    • Take ownership of results, face problems directly, and resolve them with appropriate urgency.
    • Accountable and responsible for driving sales and revenue. Success is demonstrated by ensuring sales funnel and thresholds are accomplished as well as achievement of hit rate and backlog.
    • Develop relationships with key clients and identify market opportunities.
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement effective growth strategies and processes, infrastructure, and people programs.
    • Detect potential problems and implement Corrective Action Plans.
  • Develop the People: Know your team’s capabilities. Match the right people with the proper responsibilities. Be transparent with your people and help them understand what makes the business work.
    • Build high-performing teams by developing all employees to their fullest potential, cross-training, and establishing career progression opportunities within the Division.
    • Act as a resource by mentoring, training, and developing personnel in all aspects of their careers.
    • Engage in ongoing improvement for yourself and your business. Invest in your team’s improvement.
    • Engage with your people. Be available. Visit job sites. Get to know your team like you get to know your customers.
    • Communicate relevant, transparent, and correct information on business matters to your team.
  • Run the Business: Measure effectiveness of all processes, internal and external. Drive sales, influences, and validates operations.
    • Focus on the activities that generate gross margin.
    • Tenacious curiosity to understand which levers to pull to save money and increase margin.
    • Ensure all bids and proposals are accurate, complete, and competitive. Results will be measured through unbudgeted cost percentages, client feedback, and project controls.
    • Establish clear metrics and benchmarks for measuring progress, focusing on division priorities, and maintaining a healthy business balance.
  • Grow the Business: Continuously identify market opportunities that promote growth for the business.
    • Develop strong and collaborative relationships with customers and vendors, thereby helping to resolve conflicts, ensuring expectations are being met, and maintaining potential future opportunities.
    • Continuously identify market opportunities that promote growth for the business.
    • Monitor productivity, efficiency, and profitability for all future and current projects, including the correct allocation of resources.

Required Experience, Education, and Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Business Management or 10 years of experience in the construction industry, including five years in a leadership capacity.
  • Working knowledge of various construction disciplines and safety regulations and how to apply them.
  • Understanding of cost management processes, planning, and scheduling.
  • Practical written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must have reliable transportation to the workplace(s)/ job location(s).
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check related to driving.
  • Ability to pass drug screening.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and in the future.

Work Environment & Physical Demand
This position works in an office environment, but it occasionally travels to the field to supervise projects as required.

Position type, travel, and expected hours of work.
This position requires travel to local job locations and regional offices. Typical hours will range from 45-50 hours per week and are subject to change. This role requires the ability to work nontypical days and irregular hours based on construction schedules. Due to the critical nature of the role, accepting phone calls even during nontypical workdays and hours is also necessary.
